So yes, this thing happened. Alex and I are at Computers and Writing and it’s been a fun ride. There have been lots of great talks by people talking about identity politics and games, games in the classroom, and games and games. It is really heartening to see that people not only care about the kind of work that we do, but that now there are more and more people actually doing it.
And then last night there was dinner and a keynote speech and then this happened….
That’s right Alex and I won an award for Not Your Mama’s Gamer at our professional conference. This feels good. And it’s not because we won an award (though that feels pretty good too), but because the research that we do often feels marginal at best and we are never sure of how many people are reading, seeing, valuing the work that we do and the games that we play. This is a little reminder that we are not writing in a vacuum and that perhaps other scholars in Rhetoric and Composition can be as receptive to our work as the mainstream gaming community.
Here’s hoping that we can continue to bring folks the quality content that we have been awarded for. Thanks so much for all of your support!
