[Sam, I know you have no self-control when it comes to buying games. Please, for your own sake, don’t read this article]
If you’re anything like me, you spent many hours shopping last week but made sure not to tell anyone about it, so as to avoid the backlash from folks fighting for the rights of department store employees to spend Thanksgiving with their family. So, wink wink, I totally didn’t go Black Friday shopping…
Since I didn’t get shopping in, Cyber Monday is where I need to snag up my deals on Christmas presents for… other people… yes, yes, other people. So for my blog today I’m going to cover some of the best places to get deals today for the gamer in your life.
First, stop by the Steam Autumn Sale. They have so many games on sale for ridiculously low prices. I have already bought a few for myself this morning (hey, sometimes video games are cheaper than scotch, ok?). The one I’m most excited about is a game called Reus. In this adorable indie game, you play giants who are controlling the world. You can make forests and water, put in minerals, and so on. But, you can’t control mankind, whose desires and vices always put them on the brink of destroying the beautiful planet you made. For $2.50, this game seems like a must-buy.
Other games they have on sale are, Fez $2.50, Portal 2 $5, Arkham City $7.50, Civ 5 $7.50, and Borderlands 2 $7.50. These are some great games for insanely cheap. And let’s be honest, you weren’t going to spend your holiday break solving world hunger, or even finishing the 10 games you’re half way through. Get some new fuel; hunker down with a fleece blanket, Cheetos, and a Mountain Dew a rock out on some cheap, but wonderful, games.
Kotaku has a great list of cheap and free ios and Andriod apps that are on sale for Cyber Monday. Check out the list, but here are some of the highlights:
Free:
Walking Dead Assault, Infinity Blade, Stitch It (app), Seedio (app), Fruit Ninja, Angry Birds Space, Sonic the Hedgehog, Quell
On Sale:
Limbo $2, Pandemic Board Game $3, The Bard’s Tale $1, Doodle Farm $1, Shadow Returns $7.
These are from various places, some in the app store, some on Amazon, and so on. So check through the Kotaku list for anything you’ve been eying up. There are a ton of non-game apps to dig through as well.
And of course, various stores have some great cyber Monday deals. Toys-r-Us has 50% off action figures, 50% off trains, buy one get one for $3.99 on a ton of games, 40% off Skylanders Swap stuff, and 10-20 bucks off different hand held bundles.
Walmart has 2ds for $99 and a 3ds Mario and Luigi: Dream Team bundle for $180. They also have Paper Mario Sticker Star for $10. Best Buy is giving $10 for each $100 you spend. They also have COD: Ghosts for $45, which is a pretty good deal.
Amazon has the following games on sale:
Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Dead Rising 3, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, FIFA 14, Forza 5, Grand Theft Auto V, Madden 25, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix, Need for Speed Rivals Ryse: Son of Rome, Saints Row IV
Please enjoy yourself as you go forth and shop for the gamer in your life!

I cannot recommend enough Pandemic for iOS. It is one of the best co-op board games out there and the digital implementation is about as close to perfect as you can get.
I can’t begin to tell you how good I was this time around. I think that I bought no more than 10 games and 6-7 of those were prizes and gifts. I had to show some restraint considering we just had 2 console launches and the new Zelda for the 3DS drop. I am positively swimming in new games. Now all I need is someone to come and spend many sleepless hours at my house with a case of Mountain Dew and a warehouse club sized package of Flaming Hot Cheetos. Can I get any takers?
