Happy Holidays to you all regardless of what you do or don’t celebrate. This is the time of the year when we find ourselves surrounded by family either for a holiday celebration or simply because everyone has the day off. After you share a meal with ones that you love be sure to kick back and play some games. They don’t have to be video games (though those are my favorites) they can be card games (Euchre or Magic) or board games (Clue or Catan) but be sure to share the fun and a little of the competitive spirit.
This year Santa brought Pea and I a couple of 3DS titles and a couple of board games in addition to the usual stuff so we’ll be playing those for the weeks and months to come. We will sit around the dining room table or on the floor and put our heads together to figure out rules or strategies. We will work together in a way that is not mediated by a screen and change the game enough that we can take an intermission and make the board figures go off on an extended adventure of their own. It is a chance to share in some pretty cool imaginative play with the most awesome kid ever.
All year long we spend time talking about issues that exist in our larger gaming community, but for today let’s focus on what is good and positive about being a part of this community. We often find ourselves working together to achieve a greater goal and we strategize in ways that force us to think critically about situations and changes that can happen in those situations. Gamers are social people. We socialize with one another online, at cons, and wherever else we can. Let’s share that with those who are nearest and dearest to us so that they can see how awesome we really are!

Me, my mom and sister having been playing Lords of Waterdeep and Cards Against Humanity. All while chowing down on way too much candy and finger foods. Good times were had. 🙂
Being the enablers that we are we have spent much of our time drawing others into our gaming circle. When we go out to other people’s houses we take games with us under the guise of keeping Pea occupied 🙂
