Left Behind, The Last of Us DLC, Coming in Standalone Version to PS3 and PS4 May 12

PlayStation recently announced plans to launch storyline DLC for The Last of Us, 2014’s Left Behind, as its own title on the PlayStation store on May 12. It will be available on both PS3 and PS4 for $10 / £8 / €10. The package also includes a two hour demo of The Last of Us’s multiplayer mode, Factions, which can be upgraded to the full multiplayer game or the original 2013 title with all add-ons installed.

Left Behind takes place during the winter after Joel’s injury, but also functions as a prequel through flashback sequences. The narrative switches between Ellie gathering supplies to nurse Joel and her escapades through a shopping mall with her best friend and boarding school roommate, Riley, three weeks prior to the start of The Last of Us.

This DLC is a must for any fan of The Last of Us, as the storytelling is definitely on par with the caliber of the original game, and it also introduces the combat ability to sic human and fungal enemies against each other to create chaotic distractions. For those who missed it the first time, the price drop should be enough incentive for purchase, and for those who haven’t played The Last of Us yet, this is a great opportunity to jump in and get a masterfully-created taste of the game.

In this expansion, fourteen-year-old Ellie saves the day and undergoes extreme heartbreak. The piece stands alone as a remarkable example of a female hero and the power of emotional affect in games.
